Smart legal strategy doesn’t just protect compliance. It protects capital. When FBFK Law technology attorney Javier Aranda talks about legal due diligence, he’s not talking about checklists. He’s talking about protecting value and preventing small oversights from becoming big financial problems. “Good legal work isn’t just about compliance; it’s about protecting profits and preventing risk before it costs you,” said Aranda, who spent 13 years in-house at major tech and financial companies before joining FBFK Law.
For investors and business owners, his message is simple: a strong legal strategy isn’t overhead; it’s an investment in performance. Attorneys Roland Wiederaenders and Sarah Florer bring that same philosophy to every deal. Roland, a Georgetown-trained tax attorney, helps clients structure transactions that preserve capital and sustain growth. Sarah, licensed in Texas, New York, and England & Wales, offers a global perspective shaped by cross-border experience across the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. Together, they bridge strategy and execution, turning legal insight into business advantage.
Before joining FBFK Law, Aranda served in counsel roles at Electronic Arts, Zynga, USAA, Frost Bank, and Whataburger, experiences that shaped his business-first approach. “I’ve always told people that I’m a former in-house attorney working as outside counsel,” Aranda said. “That mindset shapes how I work. I approach every deal as a business partner who understands objectives, asks strategic questions, and helps clients make decisions that have real bottom-line impact.” That clarity, he says, turns lawyers into partners, not just problem solvers.
But speed can be costly. Quick vendor deals often hide risks in auto-renewals, digital terms, or unclear IP ownership. Without central oversight, those risks multiply as companies scale. “Clients focus on selling their technology, but they are also buying tools and services every day. The more risk you take on, the more money you might spend later,” he said. Auto-renewal clauses and online terms hidden in short vendor contracts are common traps. “You sign what looks like a one-page deal that links to forty pages of online terms no one reads,” Aranda noted. “That’s where liability shifts and unexpected costs arise.” His rule: know the business before you redline. The same clause doesn’t fit every deal. That partnership mindset builds trust and momentum, core to how FBFK attorneys work. Florer adds, “When I went in-house, I became a true counselor. Legal advice is not just technical; it’s relational. That’s the privilege of being trusted counsel.”
Aranda also encourages clients to centralize oversight through a single legal hub connecting finance, marketing, and operations. It reduces risk, creates leverage, and delivers measurable savings. “Due diligence isn’t paperwork; it’s strategy,” said Florer. “Every deal tells a story,” Added Wiederaenders. “Good legal work makes sure it ends in value, not risk.”
AI can streamline the review process, but judgment still matters. Aranda shared his perspective on using artificial intelligence in legal work. “AI helps streamline risk review, but it can’t replace the human element,” he explained. “The true value of an attorney is in understanding the business context and asking why a clause exists before changing it.” Florer agreed, noting that “the counselor role is inherently human. AI can support, but not replace, that relationship.”
Aranda also shared two guiding principles that influence both his personal and professional life. Focus, achieve, success. “It’s about concentrating on the task at hand, defining achievement in your own terms, and measuring success by effort and integrity,” he said. Get over yourself. “It’s a reminder that I’m part of something bigger. My job is to contribute where I can and let the rest take its course.”
As Aranda summarized, “If you think you negotiated a great deal, but the online terms override your contract, you’ve already lost leverage. Ask the questions early, involve your attorney, and keep your house in order.”
This humility and business acumen define his approach to client service and align deeply with The FBFK Way. Across FBFK Law’s offices in Dallas, Austin, Houston, and Orange County, attorneys such as Aranda, Florer, and Wiederaenders are redefining what a legal partnership means. They design strategies that protect value, drive growth, and strengthen investor confidence.
