Summer Associate Program

FBFK’s Summer Associate Program is designed as an immersive, hands-on introduction to the practice of law at a sophisticated, full-service firm. The 10-week program, which generally runs from mid-May into July, is primarily based in our North Texas, Orange County, and Houston offices and is tailored for law students seeking meaningful experience during the summer following their second year. We are looking for individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong academic performance and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

As a mid-size firm with a broad national footprint, FBFK offers summer associates exposure to a wide range of practice areas, including corporate transactions and litigation, and specialized disciplines such as real estate, intellectual property, tax, estate planning, securities, bankruptcy and labor and employment law. The program is structured to provide both depth and variety, allowing participants to engage in substantive legal work while gaining insight into different facets of the firm’s practice.

What you can expect at FBFK Law:

Summer associates at FBFK are integrated into active legal teams and entrusted with real responsibilities. Assignments may include legal research, drafting memoranda and transactional documents, assisting with case strategy, and supporting due diligence efforts and transaction closing efforts. In addition to project work, participants have opportunities to attend client meetings, depositions, hearings, and internal strategy sessions, offering a direct view into the day-to-day realities of legal practice.

A cornerstone of the program is mentorship. Each summer associate works closely with experienced attorneys who provide guidance, feedback, and career insight throughout the program. Periodic formal training sessions and professional development programming complement this mentorship, helping associates refine practical skills while building confidence in a professional setting.

Equally important is FBFK’s emphasis on culture and connection. Social events, networking opportunities, and informal gatherings are woven throughout the summer, giving associates the chance to build relationships across offices and practice groups. The goal is not only to develop strong legal skills, but also to foster a sense of belonging within the firm.

FBFK’s Summer Associate Program ultimately serves as both a learning experience and a pathway to long-term opportunities. While we do not require summer associates to work a minimum number of hours, most work an average of 40 hours per week depending on their work assignments. By the end of the ten weeks, participants leave with a clearer understanding of their professional interests, meaningful relationships within the firm, and a realistic perspective on life as an attorney at FBFK.
