AUSTIN, Texas, May 12, 2026 – FBFK Law announced today that it secured the dismissal of Stacy Eastland from the only lawsuit arising from the July 4, 2025 deadly flood at Camp Mystic in which he was named as a defendant.
Eastland was dismissed on the eve of a hearing on his motion seeking sanctions against Plaintiffs’ counsel for filing what his attorneys argued was a groundless claim brought in bad faith.
The lawsuit was filed in November 2025 by attorneys for the parents of Ellen Elizabeth Getten in the 459th Judicial District Court of Travis County, Texas, Cause No. D-1-GN-25-009976. Of the five lawsuits filed in Austin arising from the deaths at Camp Mystic, only the Getten lawsuit named Stacy Eastland as a defendant.
FBFK Law attorney Dan Bitting established that Eastland had no ownership interest, operational role, control, or involvement with Camp Mystic for more than a decade before the flood. Eastland, the elder brother of Camp Mystic director and owner Dick Eastland, severed all ties to the camp in 2012 after conveying his minority interest in Natural Fountains Properties, Inc., the company that owns the land on which the camp operates, back to the company.
After Plaintiffs initially refused to dismiss Eastland, Bitting filed a motion arguing that the claims were groundless and warranted sanctions. Before the sanctions hearing, Plaintiffs dismissed Eastland from the case and agreed to remove all allegations concerning him from their petition.
“Stacy Eastland should never have been named in this lawsuit,” said Bitting. “The record was clear: he had no ownership interest, no operational role, no control, and no involvement with Camp Mystic for more than a decade before this tragedy. We are pleased that he has been dismissed and that the allegations against him will be removed.”
Following the dismissal, Eastland said he remains heartbroken over the tragedy.
“I was shocked and devastated when I was accused of having any role in the tragic deaths of 27 young girls, when I had no involvement with the camp for more than a decade before the floods,” Eastland said. “I am grateful that Plaintiffs’ attorneys finally acknowledged that I should never have been sued in connection with this tragedy. I continue to grieve and pray for the families of all the victims of the flood.”
